My family and I moved from Pa. to Charlotte @a year ago. We came from a smaller school district into a morass of red tape that is CMS. I have three children who attend the school district and from day one we have experienced nothing but headaches. My oldest boy attends Hopewell, is an athlete and an honor roll student. I have been appalled at some of the policies that have come from the administration. The latest example being the inability of students to relieve themselves during class unless escorted by a security officer or teacher. I thought that a school was meant to build charachter among our children but it seems that the current administration believes that they are running a prison.
After having experienced the world according to CMS, I strongly believe that it is time for a change. The most obvious choice is secession. A smaller more user freindly district would be the best way. My wife and I are very much looking forward to the meeting on Feb 17

On the subject of the newest brain child of our "fearless leader", Alan Cox, shows that he is more fearful of the student population as ever. He is at the point of punishing the entire school for 200-300 students. The simple answer to this is ship the trouble makers off to Midwood or some other diciplinary school. Dosn't matter who you are, if you're someone who has been arrested more than 3 times on school property, you're gone. Heck, it shouldn't even be TWO arrests.

I have to admit that it's pretty scary to go to school now. The latest story is that a kid from Butler, that brought a knife to school, has been transferred to Hopewell. What does CMS think that is going to do? It's getting to be ridiculous around here at Hopewell. All I have to say is I'm glad I'm a senior.

We moved to Huntersville in 1994, and stayed until 2003.

We had the "pleasure" of using:

Hornets Nest Elementary
University Park Elementary
Long Creek Elementary
Alexander Middle
Spaugh Middle
Northwest School of the Arts
Harding High
North Mecklenburg High
and Hopewell High (maybe the worst on the list, although Alexaner ranked up there then too)

We don't miss a single one of them.

You really need to break away. That's the only way you'll see it getting any beter.

Good luck.
