I transferred to North Meck from Harding and that was the worst decision of my educational life. The school is crazy, its overcrowded, and full of drama that no student should have to deal with. One of the most frustrating things about this school is getting to the school, especially if you are a student driver. I live in cornelius, not even 10 miles away from the school and it takes me 23 minutes to get to school. At this school, if you have over 6 tardies youre suspended for one day. I have 6 tardies, and everytime im late i just go back home. I have about 20 absences now because my first suspension will not be because i was tardy to school, and my dad says that if im suspended, hes going to suspend my car  . I have a lot of friends that do this, go back home because they are just pulling into school when the tardy bell rings. The traffic is ridiculous. Statesville is backed up to oblivion every morning, and Old Statesville is usually just as bad. So i dont think its fair that i can make extreme efforts to get to the school that i despise and be suspended because im not on time. Either widen the lanes or give student drivers a grace period in the mornings because of all the traffic. I think the widening of the lanes is a better idea because the school expects over 3000 people next year.
North Meck is crowded. Its trailer city, half of my classes are in trailers. Each trailer/classroom is choked with desks, some teachers can barely walk in front of the class without bumping into our desks. Lunch is a disaster, and i hate going in that cafeteria to stand around in one of those lines for 10 minutes, not to mention the food fights that the kids at this school love to have. I hate my classes, when i transferred i apparently didnt transfer to the IB program so im stuck with all these AP classes that i just dont understand. Im failing my life away at this poor excuse for education. Overall, im trying to transfer back to Harding, because Harding is what i know, and its not the best school in CMS, but atleast i can make C's at that school. If i dont get out of that school, i will simply drop out. *pumps fist in the air* McDonalds, here i come! CPCC for life! G!E!D! G!E!D lol.... adios. :)

i've no high school to compare north meck to but it is extremely overcrowded and i didnt seem like i had a handle on the place until about halfway through sophmore year. Now i am experianced in finding ways around the crowding, learned advanced tactics in dodging flying containers of jello, etc. The overcrowding doesnt bother me that much really, u get used to it. If anything i seem to meet new people almost every day. Sports at north meck are great, going to games is a blast because north has the best school spirit out of any school. Also i think Jimmy K does a good job as a principal given what he has to deal with. But thats about as much good as i can say about north from the perspective of a student. ...dont even get me started on the bad.
oh and dont u just love the improvements that the 2 new security guards made? I love having my class interrupted by random people wandering the halls and yelling for absolutely no reason.

lol thats funny, i dont feel like i should go to school to learn to dodge crowds and flying jello.
Jimmy K is cool and he does a great job considering what he has to deal with. Hopefully ill get out of your school and so there will be one less person to avoid at that lovely school of yours. adios

I hate to say it but we as adults deal with the traffic every day. The difference is that if we are late we get fired and you dont eat as a child. You should be getting up earlier and get to school on time. Life is not fair and as far i can see this is a responsiblity issue. You father should take your car for missing so much school. No for the trailer issues you right the CMS board only hide the facts that the school are overcrowded but buying the trailers. So in part you are half right to complain but the tardies to class will you getting older and you have to learn to over come things.

The fact of traffic overcrowding wouldn't be nearly as bad if ROTC didn't grossly oversell parking passes. Colonel Wolf issued a statement that if you're a senior and know a sophomore that drives, turn them in and you'll get their parking pass. However, I would say a good 30 cars park in the dirt, under trees and various other places.
It's also an engineering disaster. Parents are supposed to come in through the upper drive (closest to Highway 115 aka Old Statesville), drop off their kids, and then have the option of turning right or left. However, there is a no left turn sign but that doesn't prevent them from attempting to turn left. What happens while they wait for traffic to clear to turn left? The student drop off loop becomes congested, and then traffic at Alexanderana and 115 comes to a stand still. This happens in the afternoons as well. The majority of the traffic travels south and turns left at Alexanderana and Statesville. There is a left turn signal, but after that, you'll be lucky to get through.
I have had my own experience with the North Meck parking lot problem. I arrived at school at about 7:12. Plenty of time for me to park my truck and walk to class, right? WRONG. It took me 10 minutes to find a place to park and when I finally did, it was on one of the main drags as a last result.
I'll agree that you should be leaving earlier because I too live 10+ miles away from North in the western part of the county. I leave around 6 30 to 6 45 every day and I haven't had a problem with tardies at all.
EDIT:
The tardy policy does suck because it does exactly what you described. It makes kids who are TRYING to get to school not want to come at all.

I graduated from North Meck in 96. I lived in Cornelius and it took me around twenty minutes to get to school in 96. The same time it takes you to get there now. Here is a novel concept.... if it takes you 23 minutes to get to school why dont you leave forty five minutes before class starts? I never had any problems getting to class on time because I gave myself plenty of time to get to school. As far as going home because you were tardy... that really makes alot of sense! That sounds like a nice excuse not to go to school. If you miss one class in the morning there are other classes that you need to attend for the rest of the day. Did you ever stop and think that if you actually went to class you could get something a little better than a C.
I agree that the school system is horrible.. and the overcrowding that you face everyday is absolutely ridiculous. There should be two more high schools in the north end right now to plan for the future growth that is already approved by our towns. BUT you guys as students have to start taking responsibility for you own actions... leave for school a little early, do your homework, study, respect your teachers and get better grades.

typical outlook of someone who isnt in the system. its the STUDENTS' fault for all the problems in cms. Any school system is going to have the same ammount of trouble makers. i get to school on time, i do all of my homework, i study, i respect my teacher and i get better grades. and that is WHY i know that CMS is to blame for everything wrong with north and other schools. To even think that the problem with CMS is that all of the kids collectively got together and made a pact to get to school late, not do our homework, not study, not respect our teachers and not get better grades is just ignorant. 1996 was 9 years ago, many things can and have changed in 9 years.

Wow mr. alumni, thats not even cute. Who in their right teenage mind is going to leave their house 45 minutes before school starts? I go back home to avoid suspension, because ive never been suspended and never will be, especially not for a damn tardy. I dont even need to show up to those classes to make C's-the school is twisted in ways you wouldnt believe and HEY. im just another student ... no one cares if i show up or not.
Im not the only person that struggles to make it to that place on time, theres people that live right down the street that sit in traffic, pissed off. I'd rather sit on 77, going to work, getting paid for showing up then sitting on 115,, going to school, to possibly get suspended because some idiot sophmore rear ends a soccer mom. How can you even compare the two, school and work have one major difference-money. School has no motivation what so ever, we have to sit there for 7 or 8 hours and have useless information shoved into our brains, only to forget it the next year. You dont need any other motivation for work other then that paycheck that you earn, so why would you even try to relate the two? Work has obvious incentives whereas school is just where we get 'educated' even though that word shouldnt be used when describing CMS.
Yeah that Wolf guy oversells parking tickets, i think he finds it humorous. LoL that cart those ROTC people drive around in is hilarious, im waiting to see one of them in their ROTC uniforms sittin in that cart at a wendys drive thru.
Back to what i was saying, it really amuses me that parents come here talkin junk to students, i guess it was just wayyyyyyyyyy better back then, or maybe that guy up there forgot how backwards this system is, and i guess we all know that its always the students fault. So its not right for me to go back home to avoid suspension. I understand. And its not right for me to bitch and complain because you leave your house 3 hours early to make it to work on time. I understand. Nice way to over simplify the problem at the end too, get to school on time and respect your teachers, make better grades. Whatever, CMS can bite me, and i cant WAIT to get out of this corrupted system.

I totally understand your situation. It is beyond ridiculous. I am faced with a similar problem when I drive my son to middle school. I sit in a car line that goes on for ages. The afternoon is worse. Parents who choose to drive their child instead of making them do the 1.5 hour bus ride start lining up at 2:30 for a 3:45 dismissal simply to avoid the long lines. Now that is crazy.
That 6 tardy rule is just ridiculous. It is not a solution to the problem. Parents and students need to go to the principal and have this changed. It clearly is a stupid rule.
The bottom line is that over crowding causes numerous serious problems both for students and for parents.
